Karamani payaru kulambu (Cow Beans)

Hi friends,
Karamani payaru kulambu is one of my  fav side dishes for dosa or paratha. But usually karamani kulambu takes a lot of work. This morning I woke up with the craving for karamani kulambu. But I didn't soak the karamni yesterday night. Suddenly I remember what my mother used to do. She will dry fry the karamani  in a pan and pressure cook them. So  I did the same and got an excellent result. Karamani puli kulambu came out perfectly. So  remember this method, if you forget to soak karamani.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of karamani payaru ( Cow beans)
  • 2 onion
  • 3 tomatoes
  • Extract from lemon sized tamarind
  • A ladle of cooking oil
  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp of split black gram
  • 1/4 tsp of fenugreek seed
  • 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
  • Drumstick
  • 2 tsp of red chilly powder
  • 2 tsp of coriander powder
  • salt
Procedure:
  • Clean and soak the karamani payaru for three hours
  • Boil the karamani in a pressure cooker and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seed and split black gram and wait till it crackles.
  • Fry the chopped onion well in it .
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, drumstick, turmeric powder and salt. Cook it for five minutes. That is till the tomatoes becomes soft.
  • Mix them with the extract of tamarind and the boiled karamani  payaru. Add sufficient water in which consistency you want the gravy should be.
  • Wait till the gravy boils and reduce the flame and cook it for another fifteen minutes. Remove from the stove.
  • Garnish it with the coriander leaves. Now the delicious karamani kulambu is ready to serve.

Goes well with:
It goes well with rice, idli ,dosa and parathas.

Note:
If you forgot to soak the karamani payaru, roast it in a pan and pressure cook it.

If you serve this dish with rice and ghee, even no child will say no.
